Rajamala Wildlife Sanctuary, located 15 kms from Munnar is the natural habitat of Nilgiri Tahr. Half the world population of the rare mountain goat is concentrated in this region. The Rajamala Wildlife Sanctuary is a majestic destination for the tourists who love to see nature at its best.
The Rajamala Wildlife Sanctuary is blessed with a large collection of herbs, shrubs, trees and climbers. The rich vegetation in this locality makes it one of the most prolific places to visit. There are also many birds, reptiles and many other kinds of animals that make the Rajamala Wildlife Sanctuary a must visit place for all nature lovers.
The Rajamala Wildlife Sanctuary happens to be a chunk of another sanctuary namely the Eravikulam Wildlife Sanctuary. The visitors to this sanctuary are not permitted to visit the entire sanctuary. They can only call on the tourism areas that are in the Rajamala Wildlife Sanctuary.
This method is used to conserve the wildlife of this region. The Nilgiri Tahr, the highlight of this entire sanctuary can be seen practically from any spot in the sanctuary. The sanctuary
enjoys a vast inflow of tourists and is also well supported by the regional as well as the national bodies of administration.
