Alleppey Backwaters

Washed by the Arabian Sea, interlocked by a number of canals and bridges, Alappuzha or Alleppey is famous for its boat races, houseboats, coir products, fish and lakes. Alappuzha remains prominent on the tourist trial of Kerela as one of the major centers for backwater boat trips. A host of boat races are held here during the harvest season ( between July and September ). Alleppey or Alappuzha is also known as the "Venice of the East" its was here that traders from across the seven seas came in search of black gold and souvenirs. Alappuzha or Alleppey is also home to Kuttanad, The rice bowl of kerala, one of the very few places in the world where farming is done below sea level.

Ambalapuzha Temple

Lord Krishna is worshipped here.Here one can see the typical temple architecture and culture of Kerala along with the chance to taste the Keralan delicacy, payasam.

Krishnapuram Temple

This temple is of the typical Keralan style of architecture. The largest mural painting, Gajendra Miksham, is displayed in a museum here.

Mullackal Temple

Dedicated to goddess Rajarajeswari, is also a place worth visiting.

The Chettikulangara Bhagavathy Temple

This temple is believed to have miraculous powers and hence visited by number of pilgrims every year.

Punnamada Kayal

The must-visit place of Alappuzha in kerala, where the annual Nehru Trophy boat race takes place during the month of August-September .The long boats, designed to resemble snakes, can accommodate 120 people, making two rows of 60 each.
